Serving the Macarthur region
We cover Campbelltown, Camden, Narellan and all the suburbs in between. Pest problems in this part of Sydney tend to be a bit different from the north shore or inner city — the soil type, the bushland edges, the older homes and the warmer summers all play a role. Here's a bit about what we see in each area.
Pest Control Campbelltown
Campbelltown has a mix of older homes — a lot of weatherboard and brick veneer from the 70s and 80s — and established gardens that give termites and cockroaches plenty of places to settle in. The clay soil around Minto and Bradbury holds moisture well, which makes termite pressure higher than average. Funnel-web spiders are common here too, especially after rain.
Learn more about Campbelltown →Pest Control Camden
Camden covers everything from the historic town centre to new estates and proper acreage, so the pest picture varies a lot. On acreage and rural properties, termites and European wasps are the main concerns. The newer estates around Oran Park and Elderslie disturb the soil during construction, which can bring subterranean termite colonies to the surface. Ants and cockroaches are common year-round.
Learn more about Camden →Pest Control Narellan
Narellan has grown quickly and most of the housing is relatively new, but that doesn't mean pest-free. German cockroaches are a regular complaint — they tend to come in from commercial areas nearby and settle into kitchen appliances. Ants are almost a given in summer, and as gardens mature, spider activity picks up. Paper wasps love building nests in eaves around here too.

These are the pests we get called about most often in the Campbelltown, Camden and Narellan area. Some are just annoying, others can do real damage if you leave them too long.
Ants
Ants are probably the most common complaint across Macarthur, particularly in summer and after heavy rain. Sugar ants and black ants tend to come inside when it's hot and dry, looking for water. Coastal brown ants are a bit different — they build large, interconnected nests in the soil and can damage lawns and paths. The main thing to know is that surface sprays from the hardware store often just shift the colony rather than eliminating it. A proper treatment gets the nest directly.
Cockroaches
There are two main types to know about in this area. The big American cockroach (the ones that fly occasionally and scare you half to death) usually comes in from outside or through drains and is relatively easy to treat. German cockroaches are smaller, faster and a lot harder to get rid of — they live inside appliances and breed in large numbers. If you're seeing small cockroaches during the day in your kitchen, that's usually a German cockroach problem and it needs a gel bait treatment, not a spray.
Spiders
The Macarthur region sits within the known funnel-web spider zone, which means you need to take spiders a bit more seriously than in some other parts of Sydney. Funnel-webs are most active in summer, and they tend to appear after rain when males move around looking for a mate. Redbacks are found pretty much everywhere — meter boxes, letterboxes, kids' play equipment, under pot plants. Huntsman are very common and completely harmless, but if you've got young kids or are worried, a perimeter treatment twice a year makes a real difference.
Termites (White Ants)
Termites are the big one in this region. The clay and loam soils across Campbelltown, Minto, Camden and the newer estates around Narellan are exactly the kind of conditions subterranean termites thrive in. They work silently inside timber — skirting boards, wall cavities, subfloors, roof framing — and you often don't notice until the damage is serious. Australian Standards recommend a termite inspection every 12 months, and if you live near bushland, older timber structures or big gum trees, you should probably stick to that schedule. If you haven't had one done in the last year, it's worth getting sorted.
Why pest problems are common in Macarthur
There are a few things about the Macarthur region that make it a bit more pest-prone than other parts of Sydney — and it helps to understand them so you know what to watch for.
The bushland around Mount Annan Botanic Garden and the corridor along the Georges River creates a natural wildlife and pest pathway. Funnel-webs, rodents and possums move along these edges and into back yards, especially as housing presses closer to the bush. Properties that back onto or are near this vegetation need to stay on top of pest management more than most.
Older properties in Campbelltown — particularly in established suburbs like Bradbury, Airds and St Helens Park — often have ageing subfloors, timber stumps, and original weatherboard cladding that hasn't been updated. These create ideal entry points for termites and rodents, and are worth keeping an eye on. A lot of homeowners don't realise there's a problem until they try to renovate.
The new estates around Oran Park, Catherine Field and Gregory Hills face a different issue. Construction disturbs existing termite colonies in the ground, and the new landscaping — mulch, garden sleepers, freshly planted trees — gives them a direct path toward the house. It's worth getting a termite barrier or baiting system installed early, especially in properties without a physical slab barrier.
And across the whole region, the warmer months from October to April are when termite activity peaks. Termite alates (the winged ones) swarm on warm evenings after rain, which is when people usually first notice they've got an issue. If you see flying ants inside your home — particularly near a wall or window frame — call someone straight away rather than waiting.
